I...can't believe this.

If you haven't heard about Orphan art laws that are going to be passed, read this now:

This is silent reaper's journal. One of the many who have ranted. (I'm too tired right now to rant...)

Click on the first link. It leads you to everything you need to know.

And basically, deviant art will be a hot spot for art theft. Yes, my art and your art will no longer be safe.

This is the epitome of goverment corruption...

I'm so furious right now I can't even think X_X

Hold on a moment. If I understand this law correctly, it states that people can use "Orphan Art" for their own purposes and without consent from the author. This means our art is in no danger. For art to be orphan, the author would have to be completely anonymous and claim no rights in the first place. We're fine. Go drink some tea and read this: [link]

I'm not paying money to protect my art that I put on the internet to show my friends. Why should I have to copyright everything of mine to ensure it's protection? Fuck that bullshit. I have too much stuff on the internet pertaining to my original series and stuff, and if it's stolen there goes my dreams and hard work >_>

You have to copyright your stuff to ensure it's protection anyway. And it's already protected under a creative commons license here, which is respected. You have copyright already. The only thing that might happen is someone takes your art off here and drops it on photobucket, claiming it's their own. And you can still prosecute them for that, and be justly compensated. The only way people can use your art without consent is if they can show the court that they put an honest effort into finding who's art they were using before using it. Which, if they got it off of DA, would be impossible as they would have ripped directly off the artists page.

Of course, I'm probably still missing information. But I'm calling the LoC to fix that once they open in half an hour. I'll let you know what I find out.

But doesn't that law make it so you have to go through a whole series of bullshit to copyright stuff (for real protection atleast) and otherwise your art is considered "Orphan"

Not if you can prove it's yours. Which you can with a CCL.

What a CCL?

Creative Commons License. You attach one every time you submit something.

Hokay then. What if someone steals that and puts it on photobucket? The companies can claim, "Oh, we didn't know, here's a couple hundred bucks" but it still won't replace the fact that my character was taken...thus ruining my series and long time planned character designs >_>

That's what happens now...

And they can't do that. They have to prove that they spent a good amount of time (i.e. NOT a five minute google search) looking for the artist before they can do that.
